TEASER
The coroner is ready to autopsy Billy Miles. Billy comes in a box and is shredded to “hamburger.” All he has been asked to do is confirm that he is dead. He obviously assumes that he is.

The coroner notices something in the remains – something metal. He pulls it out and lays it on the tray. It looks like a vertebrae.

After the coroner and his assistant leave, the vertebrae starts to spin on the tray. It grows, forming more vertebrae of the soon to be spine of Billy.

ACT ONE
Reyes takes Scully to a town in Georgia where Doggett was born.

Mulder shows Doggett and Skinner the picture of Billy Miles from the security tape. Doggett tells Mulder that it’s impossible. Krycek tells them that he already told them that they couldn’t be stopped.

Skinner tells Krycek to explain what is going on. The only thing he says it that it is Billy Miles and that he’s a new kind of alien to aid in repopulation of the planet.  Mulder says that Scully is a part of that.

Doggett tells him that they won’t find Scully. Krycek tells him that he may be right, but there are others out there just like him.

Scully and Reyes arrive in Georgia. There is no running water or clean supplies.

Reyes goes outside to smoke and sees a bright light in the sky.

Nole comes to talk to Doggett. He tells him that the man that he is after has to do with the military. There was a rumored program to create a super soldier.  Doggett tells him that they said that Billy was an alien abductee. Nole tells him that he has it half right. He is a prototype that is after Scully. She was part of a program herself. Six years ago she was taken in a military operation staged as an abduction. They put a chip in the back of her neck to monitor her. It was also used to make her pregnant with the first organic version of the same super soldier.

He wants Doggett to help them catch him and put him down before he finds Scully. Doggett says that he assumes that he knows where she is. He asks if his superior knows, and says that anyone who does know, their lives are in danger too.

Mulder waits for the elevator and decides to take the stairs instead. Just as he has left Billy Miles comes out of the elevator.

Krycek, who is still in Skinner’s office, gets up to leave. Skinner yells at him to stay, until he sees Billy Miles. He then chases Krycek out in the hall and tells him to hold the elevator. Krycek smiles as he closes the door, but Skinner stops it with his hand in time.

After the doors have closed, Billy sticks his hand through the door and knocks Skinner in the head. Skinner slumps to the floor.

ACT TWO
Mulder is in the hospital looking at Skinner when Doggett comes in. Doggett wants to talk to him.

Once in the hall, Mulder tells Doggett that Skinner has a concussion and will be kept for observation.

Doggett tells him that he was talking to someone who warned him that it might have happened. He says that the man is his old friend. He said that Billy isn’t what he thinks he is, but rather a product of a government program looking to build a super soldier and said that Scully is a part of that program too. Her pregnancy was triggered by a chip that they put in the back of her neck.

Mulder wants to know who the source is. Doggett tells him that it is Nole, who is deep in the military. Mulder asks him if the man ever lied or gave him false leads.  Doggett tells him that Nole says that Scully is in danger and he wants to stop Billy. That isn’t different then what they are trying to do. Mulder asks if he told him where Scully is. He didn’t, but he is starting to think that the fact that he knows is going to get him killed. He tells him not to tell anyone, even him. Doggett asks him what if something happens to him.

Mulder questions that Nole told him that he planned to stop Billy Miles, but did he tell him how he was going to do it? He didn’t. Mulder tells him that they will go find out how trustworthy he is.

The building Scully and Reyes are in is really run down, but Reyes fixes it up the best she can to make Scully comfortable. She says that they need mood music like whale song. She reminds Scully of Melissa.

Reyes suddenly realizes that there is someone outside. She makes Scully stay in and goes out to find out.

A truck comes down the road and she makes the driver get out. It is a policewoman who makes her put the gun down and show her her I.D. Reyes trusts her and takes her inside.

Scully tells the woman that her life and her baby’s life are in danger and that a man is coming after them.

She tells them that if Scully is a doctor she knows that she is unprepared to have the baby there. Scully tells her that the man is extremely dangerous. She tells Scully that she will get her a first aid kit from her truck.

FBI PARKING GARAGE
2:56 AM

In the car, Mulder asks Doggett why his friend is eager to give him information but when they want to find him he is unreachable. He tells him that maybe he got spooked but that he’s starting to think that it doesn’t make a difference. Mulder tells him that he told him that Nole knew how to stop Billy Miles. Doggett tells him that whether Nole is a liar or not it doesn’t make any difference. Mulder tells him that it doesn’t unless he wants to save Scully’s baby.

Doggett asks him what he will do after that, and asks how long it will be until the next threat. He says that Mulder has given almost a decade of his life and there have been so many sacrifices. He asks him when it is going to end. Mulder tells him that it may never end.

Krycek drives past and Mulder tells Doggett to go. They see that Nole is in the car with Krycek.

Reyes pours Scully some water and tells Scully that with everything that she must be feeling, she looks amazingly beautiful. Scully asks her about what she is feeling and if she is getting any vibrations. She tells her that she doesn’t know if she is being paranoid or what but something feels off.

Reyes goes outside to get some water when she sees the light again.

Suddenly Billy Miles is there and he starts to choke her and throws her into the air. She picks up a pitchfork, but the cop shoots Billy before he can get to her.  Reyes looks at his body laying on the ground.

ACT THREE
Scully comes outside and sees them dragging Billy. Reyes tells her that it is all right because he is dead—he has no vitals. She tells her that they said that he couldn’t be stopped. Reyes tells her that he has lost to much blood. She looks down and notices the lump on the back of Billy’s neck.

The cop comes up and asks if that is who they were afraid of. She asks them how he found them out there. She has to report what happened. Scully tells her that she can’t, but the woman tells her that she doesn’t have any choice. That’s not what Scully meant. She just felt a contraction.

Mulder and Doggett watch Nole and Krycek. Nole leaves and they want to know whom he is going to see. Mulder tells him to go, that he will take care of Krycek.

Doggett follows Nole and sees him walk into (Kersh’s??) office and talk to Agent Crane. They do not see him. They come back out and Doggett hides again.

Doggett runs into Skinner’s office and picks up the phone to call someone. Skinner is there. Doggett tells Skinner that Mulder is down watching Krycek.

Doggett calls Mulder and tells him that Nole is with Agent Crane. Mulder asks how he knows him. Doggett wonders that too. Mulder tells him that Crane is in on it with Nole, and so is Krycek. They’ve all been in on it since the beginning. They’ve been fooling them into chasing Billy and making them think that they can protect Scully. Mulder realizes that they know where she is. Doggett tells him that only he knows, but Mulder tells him that he called Reyes from a phone in the FBI to tell her. Mulder needs to know where Scully is at and that they need to get out of there. Doggett tells him that they are in northern Georgia in Democrat Hot Springs.

Suddenly Krycek breaks through the window and grabs Mulder’s cell phone, which he smashes on the ground. He aims his gun at him and tells him to get out of the car.

Mulder gets out. Krycek tells him that it’s not fair. Mulder asks him what he knows about fair or right—he’s a coward. He tells Mulder that he could have killed him so many times, and he has to know that. He’s the one that kept him alive, praying that somehow he would win. Mulder tells him that then there really is no God. He asks him if he think that he is bad and a killer. What he doesn’t understand is that they were after the same thing. Mulder tells him that he wanted to stop them, but all he wanted was to save his own ass. Krycek tells him that he is wrong. He tried to stop them, and tried to kill Scully’s baby to stop them, but it’s too late. Mulder wouldn’t let it go which is why he has to do this (shoot Mulder) because of how deep it goes—into the FBI. Mulder tells him that if he wants to kill him to go ahead, like he killed his father. He tells him that his father was only trying to make him understand. Krycek goes to pull the trigger, but Skinner comes up behind him and shoots him in the arm.

Krycek tries to pick up the gun and Skinner shoots him again. Krycek screams and falls to the ground. He reaches towards the gun again and pushes it towards Skinner. He tells him that it is going to take more bullets than they can ever fire to win the game. He can give them a thousand lives if Skinner shoots Mulder.  Skinner raises the gun and shoots Krycek in the forehead. Krycek falls.

Mulder tells Skinner that he is going to the airport and needs the location. Skinner tells him to go alone and he will get it.

Mulder drives off and Skinner walks away.

The camera pans to show Krycek’s body.

ACT FOUR
Scully is in labor—her contractions two minutes apart.

The cop leans over and Reyes sees the telltale lump on the back of her neck.

Doggett sees Nole and Crane come out of the elevator. He tells them not to come any closer or he will shoot them. They keep coming and instead of shooting them, he runs away. They chase him.

Doggett gets down to where Skinner is and they run.

Reyes is at a loss for what to do, until she thinks of the boiling water. She throws it in the woman’s face and the woman screams.

Scully shouts, asking Reyes what is going on.

Reyes points the gun at the woman and asks who she is.

Suddenly a whole bunch of cars pull up. She tells Reyes that the baby will be born.

Reyes looks over and sees Billy standing up, now unscathed.

Scully yells to Reyes.

Doggett and Skinner make it to the car and they pull away. Skinner tells him to call Mulder.

Crane comes running after them and they run into him and he flies at their windshield. Suddenly he breaks the passenger window in.

Reyes tries to calm Scully. She tells her that everything will be all right, but she is obviously very frightened.

Scully looks past Reyes and sees Billy and the others coming in.

Crane starts choking Doggett as Nole gains on them.

Scully yells that it is her baby and not to let them take it.

The chase continues.

Reyes tells Scully to push, and Scully just yells at her not to let them take the baby, it is hers.

Skinner sees a cement poll and tells Doggett to hold on as he slams into it and knocks Crane off.

Nole drives faster and purposely runs over Crane.

Nole in turn crashes into a poll and the car blows up.

Meanwhile, Reyes keeps telling Scully to push. Scully screams as does her baby as it comes out.

Mulder is in a helicopter. He sees the building down below and tells the pilot to get him down there.

When Mulder gets there all of the cars are pulling away. He yells to everyone, asking where Scully is.

Reyes sees him and calls him over. She tells Mulder that he needs to take Scully to the hospital.

Kersh looks over the report and asks if he is supposed to take the story serious. Doggett tells him that he signed it. He tells Doggett that he sees it, and he sees Reyes’s signature to—on an X-File. He wants to know when Reyes assigned herself. She tells him that Doggett assigned her. Kersh says that Doggett can’t just assume the authority of the office. He tells Kersh that he assumes it because the office is under investigation. It is for the late night meeting with him, Crane, and Nole.

Reyes tells Kersh that both of them were presumed dead, but are now missing in actual fact.

Kersh just stares at them. They start to walk out.

Kersh yells at Doggett that he investigates what he tells him to. Doggett tells him that he assigned him to the X-Files, that’s what he is investigating.

Reyes and Doggett leave.

Mulder comes to Scully’s apartment to see her. When he goes to her bedroom he finds the Lone Gunmen there dropping off gifts. Byers tells him that they just wanted to, and Mulder finishes his sentence with “see it with your own eyes.”

Frohike tells him that it is incredible—him arriving in time to save Scully and get her to a hospital. Byers tells him that they still don’t know how he did it. Doggett said that they never reached him with the specific coordinates. He just tells them simply that there was a light and he followed it. They tell him that they have their next headline now.

The Lone Gunmen leave.

Mulder goes in to see Scully. He asks her how “everybody” is doing. She tells him that they are fine.

Scully is holding the healthy baby gently in her arms. She walks over to Mulder. He looks at the baby in wonder and awe and takes him. He asks her what she is going to call him, and she tells him William—after his father.

He looks into her eyes then down at the baby. He tells her that he has the color of her eyes, but then he jokes and says that he looks suspiciously like Skinner. They both chuckle at that.

Scully tells him that she doesn’t understand why they came to take him from *them,* but yet they didn’t. He doesn’t understand that either, except that maybe he isn’t what they thought he was, but that doesn’t make him any less than a miracle.

Scully looks as if she is about to cry. She tells him that from the minute she became pregnant she feared the truth about “how” and “why,” and she knows that he feared it too.

MULDER: I think what we feared were the possibilities. The truth we both know.
SCULLY: Which is what?

At that, Mulder slowly leans in and they share a loving kiss as Scully starts to wrap her arms around him and the baby.

The screen fades to black.

Also of note: the credits list “Scully’s baby” as Jerry Shiban. Is he John Shiban’s child?
